The Executive Branch of the Government of Puerto Rico is led by Governor. In absence of the Governor, the Secretary of State assumes those functions and, in case of a vacancy, he/she will carry them out for the remainder of the term until a new incumbent is elected.
The Legislative Assembly isone of the three constitutional powers. It is a bicameral body made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The Supreme Court is comprised of the Chief Justice and six (6) Associate Justices. They are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. These appointments are for life, until the age of mandatory retirement (70).
